In the past few weeks of genius hour we have started to draw our pictures for our pages and color them.We still need finish our pictures and print our pages. We need to copy our words onto our pages and place the pages into our hard copy of our book. Our final genius hour reflection still needs to be worked on but if we continue to make process every week on genius hour we can meet our deadlines.

For the last six weeks of our Genius Hour Project, we plan to complete the illustrations for our book and then put our book together, Once our book is complete, we plan to go to Woodland and read our book to the kids. We plan on bringing short surveys to see how the kids responded to our story. We can use the feedback from the kids to show how our Genius Hour Project impacted others.
In the article "'Hidden Figures' Inspire Connecticut Girls", it talks about how 80 High School girls were inspired by the film. After watching the film the girls felt inspired and motivated to not be afraid to take a chance and try to move forward in any of the STEM fields. Many of these girls didn't know that women were behind the first man on the moon. After finding this out the girls were surprised and also a little proud.
After the film, the girls listened to a panel of STEM role models. This panel encouraged curiosity, analytical thinking and perseverance to overcome the obstacles that being a woman comes with. In today's society, women still face obstacles. Women of color have it worse. With how evolved everything has become, you would think that our views of each other would evolve also. If we can encourage girls, and children of color, that they can accomplish just as much as those who have it easy, then the world can become so much better. Everything will become so much better. Cloud's purpose in writing this article was to compare being born a genius, or becoming one. Many believe that you can only be born a genius, others believe that you have to work for it. Cloud says "Still, genius can be very hard to discern, and not just among the young." So Cloud is still uncertain of his own view of what genius is. We as students can not shy away from learning. If we apply ourselves and work hard, we can still accomplish so much, and learn much more.
I think that Mr. Cowen presented his Genius Hour Project about the 3-D printer very well. I liked how he had examples that he already made, his slides with pictures and key things he had to say about his project, and also how he had his printer and demonstrated making something in front of our class. I feel like now that I saw his presentation I learned a lot about what can help me improve my presentation. I learned that if we have our book with us for our presentation and have pictures of us creating our book it could help improve our presentation.
Most people think that geniuses are people with high IQ's, but that's not always the case. People see geniuses as the smart people in the world who find cures for life threatening diseases or people that discover new things in the world or send a rocket into space. The person with the highest IQ in the world right now is a question-and-answer columnist. This shows that geniuses aren't always what people think they are and we are people need to find ways to fix the way we are thinking. Some strategies are rethinking the way we see things, looking at it and solving it in different ways than we are now. And when we are completing our Genius Hour Project we will work on these strategies to correct our mistakes.
Many students from all around the world are doing Genius Hour projects. Genius Hour projects show that it is okay to fail sometimes. While the students are doing their projects they are learning the idea of self teaching. While making an idea, researching, and officially putting the plan into action the students are teaching themselves skills that will help them in the future. Genius Hour projects are very beneficial for students because it teaches them that failure is okay and also lets them correct the mistakes that they've made.
As a group, we plan to write one children's book by January 10th. After the book is finished we intend to contact Woodland Elementary and set a date to read our book to the students at Woodland. After we read our book we want have it placed in the Woodland library for the children to re-read it or read it if they haven't yet. The first two months of this project we will spend time writing our book and the last month we will spend time illustrating and putting our book together to get the finished copy.
